Adrian Defalco

Meet Adrian

Adrian joined the practice in September 2022 as a Technical Director in the London office. Adrian is a chartered engineer with responsibility for leading the mechanical team in the south as well as integrating with our company wide Sustainability and Building Physics team. 

Adrian began his career at WS Atkins in 1997 as a graduate mechanical engineer, where he progressed to senior engineer level over an 8-year period. During this time, he became involved in the emerging discipline of building physics and gained expertise using early dynamic software tools that have developed into today’s industry standard software and methods. In 2005 he joined HBS, where he progressed to Associate level, expanding his experience in multiple sectors such as education, residential and commercial. During this time Adrian developed an Energy and Sustainability division to serve the ever-increasing demands for sustainable design. As HBS merged with North East based consultancy Desco he took on additional roles which led to a technical director position. In this position Adrian led the mechanical team and provided a strong link with the company wide building physics team. Adrian provided sustainability and engineering advice on many projects and became a BREEAM AP and LCC. He has particularly strong experience in delivering sustainable large-scale mixed-use schemes involving district heating.  Adrian has experience and knowledge across many sectors such as education, commercial, hospitality,  student accommodation, residential, mixed use, airports, industrial and retail. Although involved throughout the entire design and construction process, Adrian provides unique expertise at planning stage with respect to sustainability, strategy and compliance. Adrian works closely with many long term and new clients to understand their priorities and aspirations, ensuring appropriate and sustainable solutions to meet their needs.
