Ken Beall

Director

Meet Ken

Having joined Martin Thornley and the wider Thornley Lumb team as a main board Director in June 2021, Ken has become a key member of the management team with particular responsibility for developing their specialist MEP business in London and the South, very much retaining hands on leadership and close client relationships – a key driver to TLP’s ongoing success.

Ken began his career completing a formal engineering apprenticeship initially with Clifford & Snell, then subsequently with Brown & Hooker partnership before joining the international multi-disciplinary engineering practice WSP in 1982 where he progressed from Electrical Engineer to Associate to full Director and as such was actively involved in a number of early post 1987 floatation acquisitions and ultimately responsible for their London design office.  In 1995 at the age of 35 Ken founded his own MEP consultancy – HBS Consulting Engineers and was the key driver in developing the business over a successful sixteen-year period into a well-respected practice recognised for its technical expertise and quality of service.  With an enviable client base and increasing scale and complexity of engineering appointments, HBS merged with a North-East based MEP Consultancy firm in 2011 that was then subsequently acquired by a German Investment fund in 2016.

With over 40 years in the engineering consultancy industry, Ken has attained broad ranging experience across a variety of construction sectors having delivered multi-million-pound schemes such as commercial offices, headquarter buildings, major mixed-use developments, healthcare, residential, education, custodial, logistics and distribution, hotels and leisure, telecommunications, industrial and infrastructure projects throughout the UK and internationally.
